  • Thanks to Anna Douthart who provided all the pancakes for breakfast club on Pancake Tuesday
  • During Lent each class will hold a small raffle with all the proceeds going to Trocaire. Tickets 20p each
  • The raised flowerbeds at the back of the school have fallen in to disrepair and are becoming dangerous. We require volunteers to help us dispose of these safely. Please contact the school if you are able to help
  • Advance notice: St Olcan’s Dine Together on Saturday 21st April in St Olcan’s Parish Hall. There will be a selection of dishes prepared by Catriona McKendry and a DJ to provide entertainment. BYOB. Please fill in the reply slip on the accompanying letter so that we can gauge interest.

  • As part of their shared reading club, P1/2 will be going to Waterstones bookshop in Coleraine. The bus will leave school at 9am and return by 12 noon. They will be given a £10 book voucher to spend so they don’t require any spending money.

  • Catholic Schools Week 2018 will run from Sunday 28th January to Saturday 3rd February. The theme this year is ‘Families of Faith’. All classes will be doing activities around this theme.
  • On Friday 2nd February all children will attend Mass at the chapel. Children should be there for 9am and if possible collected at 9:30am and brought back to school. Children who don’t have transport should be sent to school as normal and will be taken to the chapel by a member of staff.
  • Congratulations to Orlaith Breen, Mary McArthur, David McClean and Ella McKinley who represented the school so well at the Credit Union Quiz in Ballycastle.
  • P1/2 trip to Waterstones Book shop on Monday 12th February. Each child will have £10 to spend on a book of their choice. No other money is required. Please sign the permission slip if you wish your child to go on this trip.

  • School will close for all children at 2pm on Wednesday 13th December to allow staff to make final preparations for the Christmas concert.
  • Children should be in school by 6:30pm and the concert will begin at 7pm.
  • Thank you for all contributions towards the Christmas Hampers.
  • Any unsold raffle tickets should be returned to school by Tuesday morning (12th December) so that they can be sold at the concert on the 13th December.
  • The children will remain with their teachers for the duration of the concert. They will all receive a drink and snack in school during the interval.
  • Refreshments will be served at the interval
  • Thank you to Catriona and Anna who have provided the festive treats at the interval.
  • Members of the audience are requested NOT to block the central aisle or fire door. The aisle will be clearly marked and will be used by P6/7 during their performance.
  • Children should be collected from the school after the concert.
  • Other news
  •  Any child whose 4th birthday falls on or before 1st July 2018 will have reached compulsory school and is eligible for admission to P1 in September 2018. Please collect an application form from the school or fill in online at . Closing date for applications is Wednesday 10th January 2018 at 12 noon

  • A copy of the revised Safeguarding policy and an interim policy for handling complaints has been sent home for your information.
  • Thank you to everyone who assisted in the preparation of the hall and provided baked goods and assistance for the recent Friends of St Olcan’s coffee morning. It raised a fantastic £467.55.
  • Thank you to all those brought in shoeboxes for the Christmas appeal. These boxes are going to people in need in Eastern Europe.
  • Written homework will cease from Monday 4th December.
  • Thank you to everyone who turned up to the Maths parent evening hosted by Timothy Doyle. It was a very informative evening. Maths help booklets will be available to download from website soon.

  • Maths information evening on Tuesday 14th November at 7pm for all parents. This workshop will give suggestions on how you can help your child at home. All attendees will receive a booklet of ideas to use at home.
  • Dance class for P6/7 will begin on Monday 6th November and run for 6 weeks. This club will cost £10. Please fill in the permission slip and return with payment after Halloween.
  • Art club for P4 will begin on Tuesday 7th November and run for 4 weeks. This club is limited to 12 participants. Please sign the permission slip.
  • ICT club for P5/6 will begin on Wednesday 8th November and run for 4 weeks. This club is limited to 13 participants. If oversubscribed then names will be drawn at random. Please sign the permission slip.
  • Flu vaccine will be given on Monday 13th November.
  • P4-7 will go to Coleraine Cinema on Friday 17th November to see Boss baby as part of the Into film festival.
  • Friends of St Olcan’s have organised a coffee morning for Sunday 19th November in the Parish Hall from 10.30am – 12.30pm.

  • Tommy Van Wyk from the Ulster Rugby Union will take the P6/7’s for Rugby coaching from 11am -12pm starting on Wednesday 8th November.

Friday 13th October

  • Maths information evening on Tuesday 17th October at 7pm for parents of children in P4-7. This will be taken by Timothy Boyle who previously worked for the SEELB. The evening will last for approximately 1 hour.
  • Parents/grandparents are invited in to school on Thursday 19th October from 1:30-2:30 to watch our pupils participate in some practical maths work. Please fill in the slip if you’re able to attend.
  • P6/7 will meet with P6/7 from Armoy PS on Friday 20th October.
  • All pupils must wear full school uniform every day. P4-7 can get changed for PE in school. P2/3 can wear dark blue/black tracksuit bottoms on PE days. The school uniform is as follows:

Due to unforeseen circumstances parent interviews and P1 baseline assessment interviews will now be held on Wednesday 25th October. Due to ongoing industrial action by teaching Unions,         early morning interviews will no longer be available. Interview times will be sent out on Monday. School will close at 1pm.

  • A box will be left in foyer for old/used batteries to be placed in for recycling.
  • Photograph orders should be returned to school by Friday 20th October.
  • Friends of St Olcan’s have requested that Christmas card orders should be in school by Tuesday 17th October. Please check that your child’s name is spelt correctly.

29th September

  • Dance-a-thon has raised £753 so far, with some money still to come in. This has enabled us to purchase 1 computer immediately. We are all very grateful for your support.
  • Cash for clobber collection on Wednesday 4th October. All bags of clothing should be left in school by Tuesday 3rd. Thanks for your support.
  • All medical forms must be returned to school on Monday as they will be collected on this day.

  • School photographer will be in school on Wednesday 4th October from 9am. Family photographs with preschool children not at school will take place first.
